Robert C Gallagher, the author of “The Express: The Ernie Davis Story” said that. While it is amusing, it also holds true. People change, perspectives change, organizations change. One of the big changes at the TTSAO was their decision to hire a Chairman of the Board. I was pleased and flattered to be offered this position. This hiring did not happen overnight. As a matter of fact, I believe the hiring process has taken the Board of Directors over 18 months to complete. Why so long? Frankly, they had to be shown that a committed Chairman of the Board was necessary to take the TTSAO to the next level.
I am very appreciative of the opportunity to be a part of this exciting change at the TTSAO. And as excited as I am by the challenge, before agreeing to take on this position, there were many things that needed to be considered. First, and most importantly, my family. Although our children are no longer children and are out of the “nest”, any decisions Lisa and I make with regards to changes in my work life will always be a family decision. Not just because my family is the most important thing in my life, but also because every member of my immediate family is involved in our businesses. Any decisions I make would not only affect my immediate family, but our extended business “family” as well.
The decision really was an easy one since I had the support of Lisa, my wife, business partner and best friend. Without that support it would have been a quick “No, but thank you for considering me.” What also made it an easy decision was knowing that we have a great team at KRTS, TransRep and TRVM that I trust completely to take care of the day to day in each of our businesses. Without that support, this new chapter would never have come to fruition.
It has been an exciting time and I am blessed to be the recipient of so many congratulatory calls and emails. To everyone who took the time to reach out to me – thank you!
As corny as it may sound, I want to make a positive difference in the industry and I always have. Like those who I have admired in the industry, I firmly believe that you make a living by what you earn and you make a life by what you give. I have given, and will continue to give, to this great industry.
Another wonderful change is that the Richardsons now own 100% of TransRep. Ray Haight, my long-time friend, mentor and business associate has decided it was time to spend more quality time with family and wanted to get involved in another industry project. Good luck, “Razor” – you have taught me so many things about business and life. You have many great qualities and I wish you all the best!
And on that note, it’s time to wrap things up. Summer is here – it’s time to enjoy the beautiful weather, afternoons on the golf course, barbeques with friends and family. Unfortunately, the change of seasons is inevitable too so I want to get out there and make the most of it! I hope you make time to enjoy it too.
